First United Methodist Church

First United Methodist Church, founded in 1826,
was the first church established in what would become Memphis.

The sanctuary at the corner of Poplar & Second (above)
was completed in 1893.

On the evening of October 6, 2006, the sanctuary was destroyed by a fire that started in the basement (below).
The adjoining Sunday School Building, complete in 1924, survived.
