| Mason Temple was built to serve as the world headquarters of the Church of God in Christ (COGIC), an African-American denomination founded in 1897 by Bishop Charles Harrison Mason. On April 3rd, 1968, Martin Luther King, Jr., made his famous "I have been to the mountain top" speech. He was assassinated the following day at the Lorraine Motel. |
