After they built the Memphis-Arkansas bridge, they removed the auto lanes
on each side of the old Harahan Bridge. Just before they did, my friend
Robert Harrell and I drove down to take a look. They had already placed
barricades across the lanes, but, being teenage boys, we just moved the
barricades and drove across. It was hard to drive across because there
were already pieces of asphalt and holes that you could look down and see
the river below you. We decided not to come back the other way, but instead
drove around to the new bridge.
