Midtown in the 1920s

This hand-colored photo was taken looking northeast across the median of East Parkway at Madison.  The white brick gates are the entrance to the Morningside Park neighborhood, which is a single street of fine homes
called Morning Side Place.

The Sunken Garden continued to be cultivated by the city for years.
Since the 1980s, the area has displayed the large Memphis "M" logo.

The arrow on this Google Map / Satellite Image points to the entrance to Morningside Park. The Memphis "M" logo is clearly visible in the East Parkway median.
