WHAT? NO MENTION OF THE TOAST? You have to know that this place was just as popular as Overton Square. It was more for the Memphis College of Arts group and all the hippies.

The Four Flames was the place to go for a top of the line meal for a long while. The tropical freeze was great ( White Station and Poplar). Who could forget the Luau on Poplar next to east high.
The knickerbocker was interesting. We owned JULIUS CHEESER in the Square and were robbed blind by employees ( now Silky Sullivans). I remember Merry Mobiles (sniff).

Julius Cheezer!? I loved that place! I used to work at the OVERTON HERO too! One old boyfriend told me I only knew my way around inside the Parkways - that I would be lost outside there. He was right, you know. LOL

What about the Hot Air Ballon and the We Two singing duo during the 70's Wow now that was fun.

I do not remember the HOT AIR BALLOON or the WE TWO SINGING DUO during the 70's - I was too busy going to Shell Concerts and getting wasted!

Remember the High Cotton - Furey Lewis, Tony Joe White, Larry Raspberry and the Highsteppers, so many others played there!

The Toast was my haunt beginning about '66 and continued for a few years until I moved to Southaven to avoid the high property taxes in Memphis. My friends and I, including my soon-to-be bride, frequented almost nightly. Joe Appleton was the owner and his wife, Cynthia, was a stew with my Carolyn at Delta. I seem to remember that Joe was an ex firefighter from NY. We played shuffleboard under rock music from the jukebox.

There was another place we also went to occasionly on Court Ave. close to Cleveland. I don't remember the name but most of the jukebox music was country -- Charlie Rich, etc. -- they also had a shuffleboard.
