Sears Crosstown

495 North Watkins
Opened in 1927, Sears Crosstown was home to the Mid-South regional office of Sears, Roebuck and Co., the company's catalog merchandise distribution center and its Credit Central operation. The 10-story, 1.45 million-square-foot retail store closed in 1983 and the building has been vacant since the distribution center shut down in 1993. In 2007 real estate investor Andy Cates, head of Crosstown LLC, bought the landmark Art Deco structure for $3.5 million. He hopes to reinvate the 18-acre site into retail, office and residential spaces.
