Early
history of
Whitehaven High School:
Whitehaven Academy was established as a
private school in 1885. It was housed in
a one-room, 22' x 44' foot schoolhouse
built on an acre of land donated by Col.
Frank White, for whom Whitehaven was
named. The school was deeded to the
county around 1890. The school was
accredited in 1913 and became a 12-year
high school the next year. The
school was lost to fires twice
through the years. The current main building was built in the
1930s.
