The love of history hit me rather hard for the first time in second grade
at this place. It was around Christmastime, and my CLUE group (that little
phenom should get its own page) was doing a "History of Memphis" tour. At
the time, they talked about Yule logs and had a Christmas tree sporting
actual candles with actual fire. They passed around some sort of large
seed or fruit that smelled of cloves. They contrasted the men's toilet
situation (outside, Guy) with that of the ladies' (chamber pot under the
rather high bed). If they're open around Christmastime, you won't learn
about Yule logs or see a Christmas tree; you see, those were German
Protestant traditions, and Eugene Magevney was Irish Catholic...
Check out the mysterious building foundations out back that may or may not
have been the slaves' quarters.
