The most scared I've ever been: at the Bristol theater in the early 50's.
The movie was "The Thing". I lived close by near East High School and
frequented both the Bristol and Plaza theaters.

I can't remember the exact name of the film, but it was a B movie about She
Devils coming up from the sea, with fangs and 12" fingernails, to kill
everything in sight. My parents said I could go see it with my friend,
Greg. We were 8 years old! Greg's Mom picked us up and drove me home. My
family was in bed. I put a butcher knife from the kitchen, under my pillow,
and went to sleep. Fortunately, my Mother came to check on me, and put the
knife away. Things were different in 1959.

My family and I lived at 2577 Tutwiler.
4 doors down from my house lived a girl I fell in love with--Mary Ellen
Simmons--and we spent many afternoons at the Bristol. One particular time
we didn't have the money to go to the movies so we walked over to Summer
Ave. She began panhandling anyone on Summer until she got enough for our
tickets and popcorn.. Later Johnny Cash moved into the neighborhood. He
shared a duplex 2 doors from Mary Ellen's house.
We got to spend a few afternoons on his front porch with him. When
Roseanne cash was born I sat on his porch and held Roseanne while her
mother went into the house to prepare her a bottle of milk. At the time
Johnny was driving a new stripped down plymouth which he had bought with
his mustering out pay from the Air Force. Across the street from Mary
Ellen were the Maharreys whom we also associated with-Buzz, lady, and
fellow Maharrey.. It was a great little neighborhood. While we lived
there my parents bought a TV (black and white). As a result our family
living room was usually crowded with the neighborhood kids where we watched
Ted Mack's Amateur Hour,Howdy Doody and a few other programs (there were
not many programs at that time.)
Wonderful times, wonderful memories...
