I remember going to the opening night of "Star Wars" at the Memphian; my
friends were all jealous. I also remember seeing Rick Dees, fresh off his
one-hit wonder "Disco Duck", premeiere his new song "Discorilla" at the
Memphian opening of the Dino De Laurentiis remake of "King Kong".

I saw my first movie at the Memphian. It was "Gone with the Wind" I am
sure it was a holdover as it had to be in the early 60s.

My ex-wife's aunt used to be the manager at the Memphian. I can recall
following a white Stutz Bearcat down Union Avenue as it pulled into the
rear alley. Elvis used to rent the theater and we'd sit in the balcony and
watch him watch his movies. Great times!

During grade school years in the 50s I lived on Courtland ST near the
Memphian Movie theatre. I remember walking from our little duplex to the
Saturday double features there in the Summer.... Great air conditioning and
alway multiple cartoons between the two movies. My memory was that
admission was just 12 cents if I had a coupon I could get out of a can of
coffee... we shopped for groceries just down Cooper at Memphis Grocerys
