Concerts at the Mid South Coliseum

The Beatles (August 19, 1966 - their seventh-to-last concert ever)  You couldn't hear anything but girls screaming.  Someone set off a cherry bomb and the Fab Four thought they had been shot at.
Chicago (Fall 1973)
George Harrison (Around 1974. The air was thick with marijuana smoke)

Electric Light Orchestra

(Around 1978) One of the most awesome concerts ever staged at the Mid-South Coliseum.  There was a "Flying Saucer" onstage that opened up to reveal the band.  Laser beams were shooting all over the inside of the arena.
Elton John (1974, "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" tour--he brought Stevie Wonder up on stage for a few minutes)
David Bowie (1975--Diamond Dogs tour)
Grand Funk (circa 1974)
Gary Puckett and the Union Gap (1969)
Kenny Rogers and the First Edition (1969-the opening act for Gary Puckett and the Union Gap, and one of the last times they appeared together as a group.)
James Brown with the Starlight Revue
Led Zeppelin
The Beach Boys (November 26, 1975)  Thanksgiving Eve performance at the height of their comeback, with people dancing in the aisles.
Rolling Stones (1978) "Some Girls" tour
Alice Cooper/
Suzi Quatro
(1975) The "Welcome to My Nightmare" Tour, with opening act Suzi Quatro (later known for playing "Leather Tuscadaro" on Happy Days).

You can also add 2 Live Crew and Motley Crew. I always remembered the news reports about these two imfamous shows.

2 Live was asked not to the profane lyrics to the songs, so they asked the crowd to fill in the gaps.

Motley Crew made the news as well because they mooned the crowd!

Three errors above- Elton John "GBYBR" concert was in 1973 not'74. He brought Al Green onstage for "Honky Tonk Women" (not "Honky Cat") ,not Stevie Wonder. Bowie "Diamond Dogs" show was in June ,1974. He played there again the night after the George Harrison concert in Nov. 1974.
Led Zeppelin show at the Coliseum was on April 17, 1970.

The David Bowie concert in '75 was the
"Station to Station" Tour which began with a short ( and grotesque ) film.
The light show had no colored lights
I remember. My parents took us there
for the show......I remember a "funny"
smell after the house lights went down.

I hope the coliseum is not demolished,
many memories there, and probably
the best sounding large venue in Memphis.
