There was a ride at the
fairgrounds called The Old Mill.
Floating on a boat in water about 2 feet
deep, watching in the dark for surprise
scenes, but nothing like the last one
where the donkey kicked and the noise
made you jump every time, even though
you were expecting it!
|
On the Carousel, reaching way out to grab
a brass ring meant a free ride next time
around.
|
The Zippin'
Pippin was the greatest roller coaster
in the world.
(Even Elvis thought so!) |

There were
always photographers to take a picture
of you, or your whole family, with
different backgrounds. Here's one
of those shots taken in 1955! |

I saw on a PBS Special several years ago (show was called something like
"Memories of Memphis" & it was sooo good) that there was legal(?)
horseracing at the fairgrounds like in the 50's maybe? My Mom said she
remembered it but seemed like it didnt last long..too much fun, I guess, ha
ha..or maybe the right folks werent getting their cut??anyway, does anyone
know more about that? How cool that wouldve been, huh?If anyone knows can u
post it here? Thanks..RM
