The caption from this 1950s/1960s postcard reads:
SPANISH WAR MEMORIAL, Central and Parkway.  ‘The Hiker’ stands in the center of Spanish War Memorial Park typifying the rugged, self-sufficient American volunteer who fought Spain in Cuba and the Philippines.  This fourteen-foot bronze memorial was erected in 1956 with funds raised by Benjamin Wright Camp No. 3, United Spanish War Veterans under the leadership of Fred Bauer, Commander.

I use to "hang out" in Overton Park every weekend back in the early 70's. I called myself a part time hippie cause I had a job unlike some of my friends. Once I laid down on the grass because somebody told me too, and little did I know we were spelling out the word PIG for the police helicoptor flying over.IT was on the local news that night. We smoked grass and were just happening with our friends. My Mother saw me on TV during the local news of all the bad hippies at Overton Park. I got in serious trouble!!!Did anyone else have this memory or is it all in my mind?
