DJ "GK", George Klein was the first of the big name DJs in Memphis. George is still on the air today with his "Elvis" Memories show.

Also still running is "Talk It Out" with Father Don on Sunday nights.

Owned by Herbert Hood (then a car dealer), had studios in the Sterick Building.  At 1340 on the dial, it was the number one or two independent (non-network) station in the nation year to year in the early 1950s featuring music and news.  Among the "name" disc jockeys were Sleepy-Eyed John, The Great Scott, and Kenny Sargent, vocalist with Glen Gray's Casa Loma Orchestra, to name a few.

DJ Ron Olson, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Olson, is still on FM-100.
"The King Biscuit Flour Hour."
The "Pig-n-Whistle" Show with Alex Ward.  Alex and his Pig-n-Whistle show are still on today on the oldies station 102.3.

What about rock 103. there was a DJ named "Red Beard" what ever happened to that station? I don't live in Memphis any more but grew up there from 1959 to 1979 and my parents still live there. Love this web site
